What investment opportunities remain in the MENA region?
The panorama of M&A opportunities across the MENA region has looked lacking over the last 12 to 18 months. The financial crisis has of course had a role to play, with some opportunities being shelved. However, it has also been the result of a raft of new entrants having joined markets, as regulators across the Middle East and North Africa encouraged the entrance of second and third mobile operators in the mid-to-late 2000s.
Those companies and governments who were looking to attract M&A activity 18 months ago are now testing the water again, keen to see if interest has returned. This article considers a number of telecoms M&A opportunities that now seem to be back on the agenda and how these could affect the balance of power between operators in the region.
