Report: MENA mobile telecoms investment review and forecasts 2010-2014 |
|
|
Summary
The Middle East saw a flurry of investment activity between 2005 and 2008, with a number of new mobile licences awarded and both 2G and 3G networks rolled out. Following a period where operators have refocused on cost cutting in existing operations as a result of the financial crisis, operators are now facing major decisions about capex plans, with investments in technologies such as LTE on the horizon in the near term. This investment takes place in the context of a maturing mobile voice market, but a boom in data services such as mobile broadband.
This report forecasts the future growth of the mobile market in the MENA region and key investments to be made in the coming five years. It analyses network investment, including options for deployment of further mobile broadband capacity, assessing spectrum deployment options and technology options including HSPA, HSPA+ and LTE. Further, the report covers opportunities for investment in the region in new mobile licences and operator M&A opportunities through stake sales and privatisations.
Investment plans are put in the context of future industry developments, with forecasts of traditional mobile handset and the new mobile broadband markets. Forecasts are made for each country in the MENA region (Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen). Forecasts are focused on commercial KPIs, such as subscribers, penetration, ARPU and revenue.
